About looking for good apt in Milwaukee area, any suggestions

Looking for good apt in Milwaukee area, any suggestions?
A friend of mine is relocating from Chicago to Milwaukee to work at the Army Reserve center on Silver Springs Drive on the north side of Milwaukee. Can you recommend a decent apartment complex within a 30-minute drive of this? Looking to spend up to around $700 per month on a 1 bedroom.

I'm not really familiar with rental costs, but I'd suggest you look outside of that area as much as possible. Probably - I'm not sure where exactly on SS it's located, but the north side can be dodgy. The east side and Shorewood can be a bit pricy and tends to have lots of college students. Don't know if that would suit you or not. But it's a nice area otherwise and would be fairly close. Wauwatosa would be closer to a 30 minute drive but the area is very nice. West Allis - avoid it. The south side of Milwaukee and its suburbs like Cudahy and Franklin would probably be too far, although Bay View would be a nice area, albeit a bit of a drive. I guess if you live in the SS area, just try to go as far east as possible rather than west.

The area of Milwaukee where the Army Reserve Center is, is not the best area of town. If he goes a little further east down Silver Spring Drive towards the lake (lake michigan) there are some very nice areas, but pricey. Wauwatosa (west side of milwaukee) is very nice. The east side of Milwaukee (around the Brady St. area) has some nice neighborhoods, and the people are generally in the younger age group (18-30). The rent is generally more affordable there too. Just north of Water St. has some nice areas, and has affordable rent, and it's very close to downtown with all kinds of things close by. Lots of night life stuff always going on. That should be a good start, but there are lots of other areas of the city within close enough range to where he'll be working that would be good.
