I'm relocating to Chicago from Milwaukee in the next month or so for work. What neighborhood is best?
I was originally looking in the Wicker Park area, but then did some research and am more interested in the Lincoln Park area and/or Lakeview. Can anyone offer input on these areas? I'm a single young professional with two dogs. I definitely want to be in a safe area, but also close to good nightlife and other conveniences such as grocery stores, etc. What are some of the popular areas in these neighborhoods for good nightlife and meeting new people? Any input/comments are helpful.

Everywhere you are looking are great for all those things, if you have big dogs, depending on you much you want to spend for your place...the lakeview apartments are smaller than what you would find in Lincoln park, and Wicker Park. Wicker Park and Lincoln park, you have a better chance of finding something with a yard for your dogs so they can let loose for a while, and they have a lot of dog parks and such, Wicker park has great nightlife, actually all the area do, But I really like Wicker Park. All safe neighborhoods, and most likely if you move to any of those areas, you will be close to grocery and convenience stores. good luck :)

Lincoln park is great for nightlife and so is Wicker park/bucktown, South Loop is good too if you can afford it same goes with the goldcoast and river north. Just stay away from anything on the south side (south of roosevelt) and the west side (south of diversey and west of western) until you get to know the neighborhoods really well. Norwood park/Edison park is nice and quiet, and Jefferson park is the more busy neighborhood around there. West Rogers park is also pretty nice, and uptown has some nice places to go to like the aragon ballroom. Oh yea and just so you know, BREWERS SUCK!! (you'll get a lot of that once people find out you're from Milwaukee) oh and the packers suck too..;)

I have lived in all 3 areas and I settled in the Wicker Park/ Ukranian Village area. This is home. There is more of a sense of community here, people are more friendly than in Lakeview or Lincoln Park/ Wicker Park has much better nightlife than other neighborhoods and you can walk to everything. There is also much finer architecture here. Most of lakeview and Lincoln Park was turned into cookie cutter condos. Rent is cheaper and you are closer to downtown. There is not much of a parking issue on the sidestreets. It is residential permit parking and a good landlord should direct you as to getting a permit. There are many grocery stores and small mom and pop stores all over for all your shopping needs.

Lincoln Park and Lakeview are close to nightlife. I would suggest looking at condo's for rent, they can be more reasonable and you get more for your money, but that would be hard with the dogs.
